Delicious Lionfish
Lionfish arrived in Grand Cayman in 2009. Exotic and beautiful, the lion fish has an imposing fan of prickly venomous spines that aren’t fatal not fatal but extremely painful. Hunting lionfish makes for great sport on Grand Cayman. Lionfish also means great dining.
That’s because lionfish are absolutely delicious to eat. The white flaky meat is mild, delicate, tender and buttery. Cayman restaurants offer lion fish cooked in a variety of ways on their menus. Lionfish is fresh off the divers’ spears every day and is always in season.

The Lighthouse Restaurant
One of our favorite restaurants in Grand Cayman is The Lighthouse in the district of Breakers, half way between the airport and Cayman Kai.
The Lighthouse has a beautiful dock which offers stunning views of the water. Their outstanding menu features a creative mix of fresh, local seafood and Italian cuisine. Captain G and his attentive wait staff treat everyone like royalty.
For starters, we love to dip the homemade focaccia in olive oil and aged balsamic. My sons love the brick-oven pizzas. The girls enjoy the Mixed Grill. My husband and I are big fans of the Pirate’s Seafood Pasta. All of their desserts are homemade on the premises. The beignets are the best I have ever tasted. Original or chocolate flavor and served with strawberry sauce, caramel sauce, or white chocolate truffle mousse. Note – they take about 15 minutes to cook and need to be ordered when the entrees are served.
Whether you’re staying in Cayman Kai, North Side, East End or Seven Mile Beach, The Lighthouse is approximately a 15-20 minute drive from any location and well worth it! The private wine cellar is a lovely venue for celebrating a special birthday or anniversary.
Don’t leave Grand Cayman without a visit to The Lighthouse! http://www.lighthouse.ky
