Beach Notes

The entire island of Grand Cayman is only 22 miles wide from west to east, so you are never far from anywhere on the island.

The oceanfront homes in Rum Point offer beautiful, tranquil, quiet beaches and great reef-protected snorkeling. The beaches usually have plenty of white sand, but can also have spots of rocky “ironshore” with natural rock formations. There can also be occasional seaweed. The closer you get to Rum Point, usually the sandier the beach.

With the abundant marine life we have in the water, you will want to wear pool shoes or fins for foot protection.

Another big draw to this area is the proximity to the Rum Point Club, a public beach club that offers a fantastic barefoot beach, abundant water sports, a restaurant bar and grill, a gift shop and pick-up beach volleyball games.  Also nearby is the Kaibo Yacht Club restaurant, bar, and marina.

Lastly, we have two large resorts in the east end (Morritt's and The Reef) that offer manicured beaches as well as restaurants, a modern grocery store, liquor store, gift shops, a Subway sandwich shop, and a cafe/pastry shop. These resorts also offer scuba, snorkel trips, jet skis, windsurfing, kiteboarding, oceanfront pools, and bar service.

General Grand Cayman Beach Notes

All beaches in Grand Cayman are technically public since the Crown owns up to the high water mark.

The shoreline quality behind your property may vary slightly from the images on our website due to shifting tides and weather patterns. The next-door beach is also always available for your use.

Ocean Debris & Sargassum Seaweed

Beaches in Grand Cayman may also experience floating ocean debris and sargassum weed seasonally.

Sargassum is a generally harmless floating seaweed that has increased in frequency over the years during the summer. Our owners do make efforts to remove heavy sargassum and will have the beach raked prior to your arrival.

Should sargassum weed be extremely heavy behind your property, we will reach out to the owner for alternative solutions which may include a partial refund or relocation.

We try our best to work around mother nature.

What a lovely home. We spent the week snorkeling right off the beach, super private, in fact, we didn't see anybody else on the beach the whole time! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Kai Tana is amazing! The pictures of the villa are absolutely correct it is everything my husband and I pictured it is PARADISE! We had a wonderful experience every step of the way from booking over the phone with Scott in the US, our property manager Ms Angela was very friendly and helpful and always answered our calls and everyone at the welcome center in Cayman throughout our stay were friendly. Very clean and beautiful villa along with the island everything was clean and beautiful and everyone on the island is over the top friendly and lovely. If we get the chance to come back- we will come back to stay here at Kai Tana!

Epic Vacation Stay

Spent 10 days in February with my beautiful bride at Kai Tana. This is a private and secluded property right on the ocean. You can enjoy full sun on the beach, or linger in the shade of the coconut trees surrounding the house. The view is magnificent from both inside the house and out, and there was an omnipresent breeze to cool you off during the day and waves washing ashore to rock you to sleep at night. Simply an epic vacation stay.

A Slice of Paradise

My husband, 2 year old daughter and I stayed at this property. It was absolutely perfect for my family. The washer and dryer were amazing and worked great. It felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. There are no neighbors in the lots to the left or right so we felt like we were on our own private island. We ate at the rum point club restaurant (Solis) and Kaibo mostly every day. Pro tip: Kaibo does have a coffee and espresso shop- get there early because I think it\'s the only coffee shop around, but absolutely delicious. It was a 45 to 50 minute drive to get to the 7 mile beach areas, but we only did that twice. I wasn\'t rushing to go back to Georgetown or Camana Bay honestly. Instead, we just stayed at the house and beach most of the time. The botanical gardens were WONDERFUL for our daughter. They have a really nice children\'s playground. The wind did pick up for a good portion of our stay on that side of the island so we tried to find other areas to go to. You can\'t predict which way the wind will be blowing as it changes frequently. However, when the wind wasn\'t blowing it was the definition of idyllic. We felt completely safe in this house. Scott and Angella were amazing. We had our groceries delivered the day we arrived and Angella arranged to get them in the house and organized for us (highly recommend). There is a small grocery store that serves this side of the island. I was worried it wouldn\'t have much, but my husband was plenty surprised by the selection. The beach was also full of seaweed when we first got there and Angella had it cleaned up (without us even saying something) by the next morning (we arrived on a holiday or else I think it would have been cleaned before we even got there). Unfortunately our stingray city adventure was cancelled due to weather, but if that is something you may want to do I suggest finding companies that will pick up at rum point or Kaibo to save yourself the drive time. We were going to use Crazy Crab to do so.

Enjoyed Every Moment

Me and my spouse stayed from 9/7-9/14 and enjoyed every moment. The property is beautifully maintained and the house was always an incredibly welcome comfort after a day of adventures. The location is perfect, the water was amazing, and the kittens on the property were a welcome sight every evening and morning. The views reminded us that we were in paradise every single day.

It is difficult to put into words just how scenic the view is at Kai Tana. The home is maintained very well and has pretty much everything you would need onsite. AC works great to keep you cool on the hot summer days but even when outside the breeze from the water does a surprisingly good job of keeping you cool! Due to the location of Kai Tana it offers an intensely quiet and private setting that we really appreciated as an escape our day to day. As an added bonus there seems to be three or so island cats and some black birds that visit frequently. Thoroughly looking forward to going back!

Kaitana was truly a tranquil and relaxing place to stay for our week long getaway. Walking into the cottage, you\'re immediately blown away by the stunning ocean views and island fauna. Everything inside was nicely cleaned and maintained, with all the amenities needed for our stay. Since this airbnb is located on the opposite side of Seven Mile Beach, the amount of stores and restaurants were minimal, but east end is about a 20 minute drive to some good grub spots. Rum point is also a 10 min drive in the opposite direction with some great food and coffee options as well. We stocked up on food at the house to balance between eating out and staying in. Another little added bonus was the sweet island cats that live in the area. We enjoyed their company and entertainment while relaxing outside. The host / management staff were extremely responsive and helpful before and during our stay. This stay was just what we needed for relaxation and mental reset.

Absolutely Beautiful and Private

Location, location, location!! Kai Tana is a beautiful little cottage in a very private setting, shielded on both sides by foliage and a good distance from the neighbors. This is perfect for the North Side which is quiet anyway. The lot is beautifully landscaped, especially in the back facing the Caribbean Sea. The setting makes you feel like you are in a true island paradise. The house is perfect for two to four people. Both bedrooms are a good size. The smaller bedroom has a connected bathroom. The main bedroom is adjacent to but not directly connected to the bathroom. The kitchen is located between the bedrooms and is small but a perfect size for a beach cottage – who is going to spend time in the kitchen anyway? Living room and dining space are a good size and has an amazing full view of the Caribbean. The outdoor hardscape and furnishings are also quite nice and comfy. Access to the beach – just steps from the house. This is not much of a walking beach, especially because of the sargassum. Don’t forget your water shoes because they are definitely needed. During our two week stay we were able to kayak and swim several times but on some days the sargassam was too thick. When there is no breeze it can get quite buggy and the smell of the sargassum can waft up toward the cottage. Luckily there was a good breeze most of the time so we could hang outside. There are at least two cats who we think occupy the small structure or “cat house” on the east side of the house. They were nice company but on a determined but unsuccessful campaign to gain access to the inside of the house and to get some handouts. North Side restaurants: Over the Edge has pretty good food and it has a very large deck to enjoy the Caribbean Sea. Kaibo Beach & Marina has a beach restaurant that also serves pretty good food and the upstairs restaurant has an excellent dinner tasting menu. Also, at the marina, able to book excursions – very convenient.

This home was great for two couples. It was peaceful and quite, but with a beautiful beach area. We did have some turtle grass come ashore, but we would rake a path and the water was great. The reef was out about a hundred yards and that is where the waves crashed, inside the reef we would snorkel and had a fair amount of sea life to observe. The local store was close and convenient, a little more expensive than the large stores in town, but they had a great selection of food and souvenirs. The property was clean and well maintained. The complementary items from the Guest Center was very convenient for us. All and all a most wonderful trip.

This little beach cottage really exceeded expectations. With the two plots on either side not developed, it offers a very private beach experience. We didn\'t even see other people which is exactly what we needed! The villa has everything you need and the kitchen is equipped to a high standard, we even found utensils and kitchen appliances to be able to bake with (i.e. so not only the essentials in the Kitchen). One small thing they can look to add is a dishwasher. Will definitely be back for a next staycation!

We stayed at Cool Change for a week in May. Beautiful Cayman Cottage. Comfortable bedding. Rooms average size. Air conditioners worked well, as it was hot when we were there. The home has a nice elevation from the water and deep, white sandy beach. We kayaked and snorkeled every day - dont think we saw the same fish - new every time... Not deep at all, no currents and safe. Highly recommended to all!

Peaceful and Simple

We just returned from the most amazing time spent at Cool Change. My husband and I settled in comfortably and truly enjoyed our time spent in this lovely little slice of heaven. It was clean, comfortable and well equipped. The AC worked great. A constant ocean breeze allowed us to open the windows during the day. We utilized every single part of the house. The outdoor shower, the washer/dryer, the kitchen, the abundance of beach towels. We cooked every night but one. The one night we ate out we enjoyed the chefs 6-course tasting menu with pairings at Kaibo Upstairs. Amazing! We swam with Stingrays through White Sand sports and will never forget that experience. The beach is beautiful but the seaweed was terrible. Homeowner can’t change this but I think it’s worth noting that it impedes swimming, snorkeling and the view a bit. It was 2 feet thick in most places. Also, would love for them to add a dishwasher and a hammock. With as much as we cooked, it was a bit of a pain to have to hand wash all of our dishes on vacation. Also, there are perfect trees for a hammock! Other than those minor things, our time spent at Cool Change was perfect. We will be back! Almost forgot, Bernie, the property manager was so sweet and helpful. He does a great job with the upkeep of the home.

Slightly set back from the beach, this villa has a beautiful view of the beach and water. Well stocked for cooking , including an outdoor grill. Comfortable beds. Clean. Nice living room with plenty of space. Responsive caretaker. Definitely recommend renting a car so you can explore the island. Unfortunately there was a lot of seaweed on the beach while we were there but we walked down the beach a bit to enter the water. Quiet and safe area.

First time and loved it. Own private beach and great back patio. Breeze is wonderful that side of island. Water access is questionable. Calm days no sargassum in water and can use. However once wind or storm comes in too much in water to use. Thus perfect location to relax, read books, and play on private beach but water access may or may not be available. We didn’t care as we went to several different spots on island. It was just great having the privacy to lay out and relax on our own. We did have some ants and WiFi didn’t work. Bernie was property manager and he didn’t respond to our texts. Wasn’t a big deal but why I gave it 4 stars. Rent a car so you can explore Kaibo, Rum Point, 7 mile beach, south side, and north side. We didn’t make it to East side but will next time. Stingray tour a must.

Ok, there are better houses to rent for 50% more and yes, there is no pool - but for a fine beach holiday with no frills but perfect thrills this is the place. You have to accept the 50/60 minutes drive from the airport and G-Town. You need to be chilled about the lack of shops within 10 miles. But to me that is all good. Iguanas and lizards abound, land crabs and the odd harmless snake make for great spots, and the constant breeze renders aircon unnecessary. Thus is a lovely place where even the presence of foul-smelling sargassum weed two feet deep in the beach and 10 metres out to sea rendering both useless for bathing or swimming should not spoil the holiday. You are close to no one, there is no crime, and the place is well-built and looked after. You can run to Kaibo in 15 minutes or walk in 30 and the road is quiet. A car is essential and you should stock up at Hurleys on day one as it is a long way later to shop. It is not Kansas, Toto, but a beautiful beach cottage, with all the basic needs including Wi-fi - what more do you need?
Manager Response:

Thank you for your kind words. The sargassum is finally starting to dissipate. Will be gone in 2 weeks.

Please come again!

This adorable cottage is so pretty and comfortable. The attention to detail is truly appreciated!! We love it here and don\'t want to leave. We had a lot of rain to lull us to sleep at night with the sounds from the metal roof. AWESOME! Best sleep we\'ve had in a long time. We stayed at Cool Change in preference to a hotel on Seven Mile Beach or a house or condo on the East End or in and around George Town or Bodden Town. It was not a problem to get to great dining opportunities, because the Rum Point Restaurant and Kaibo are 5 minutes away, Tukka and The Lighthouse only 20 minutes. The house is very classic West Indian construction and just the right size for a couple or small family. It has a private beach and even more isolation provided by a vacant lot covered in sea grape on one side and a high hedge of a flowering native shrub on the other. Mornings and afternoons on the back patio are fantastic; we drank our coffee and watched the sun rise each morning. The house stays very comfortable with AC in both bedrooms and the living room, and fans throughout. All of the amenities are relatively new, clean and well maintained. We never watched TV, but can vouch for the Wi-Fi. The North Side is the best part of Grand Cayman; uncrowded, serene and yet convenient to anything you would want to do. We will definitely be back!

Cool Change more than met our expectations. It is perfect for two couples as advertised. We found the home immaculate after Angela had cleaned it. The winds were strong when we arrived with much seagrass on beach but was cleaned up that evening. North winds do deposit alot of it on beach but that's life. The home is very private with open lots on either side. Home is stocked with everything needed and is convenient to a number of restaurants and a small grocery store. We enjoyed the snorkeling out by the reef from the house but had much better snorkeling from Scott's recommendation of Queen Elizabeth Monument, just 10 minutes east. Recommendations include adding a fourth beach lounger and installing a shade in twin beds bedroom. Looks like there was one there at some point. Needed to provide privacy and keeping light out in the early morning. Staff was very informative and attentive from original booking of home. Should we return to Grand Cayman we would very likely utilize Grand Cayman Villas again and if just 4 people, Cool Change.

Such a lovely Villa! Very private, comfortable and all the amenities of home plus so much more...loved the cute glasses and wine glasses, how much fun!! The owners have done an amazing job decorating their home with an Islandy fell, loved it!! Had luck and shopped at Rum Point and Kaibo. Snorkels right out front of the Villa, lots of things to see, Stingrays, Fish a large variety, Turtles, and so much more We loved it and will return!! 5 of 5 stars Ease of booking5 of 5 stars Directions to the property 5 of 5 stars Key pickup/access to the property 5 of 5 stars Overall condition 5 of 5 stars Quality of bedding/mattresses5 of 5 stars Kitchen/utensils quality 5 of 5 stars Cleanliness of bathroom 5 of 5 stars Quality of facilities/amenities 5 of 5 stars Service Traveling group: Friends Would I recommend this vacation rental to my best friend? Staying at Cool Change for the third time was just as amazing as the previous two times. We spent two weeks this time and were so sad to leave. We are looking forward to this year and our trip there again. Private, cozy, well decorated and excellently maintained, Cool Change is what Grand Cayman is all about, not commercial or over sized, Cool Change stays in tune with the ocean and its wondrous beauties to behold. Liked best: The privacy and location on the island Liked least: Nothing Traveling group: Extended Family Would I recommend this vacation rental to my best friend? Yes. Our group of three (two Biology Professors and a fiancee) stayed here for just four nights and we reveled in every minute of it. The directions to Cool Change were meticulous and we also asked for and were given directions to a grocery store. From the pictures on the website, we could not have imagined the sheer beauty of the villa and its setting right on the sea. The house was spotlessly clean and well furnished, nothing was lacking throughout our stay. The house sits on what seems to be a large plot of land, the neighboring houses are distant, and the beach (out the back door and down the stairs) is as close to private as you could desire. Large windows and sliding glass doors on the sea side opened out onto a lovely tiled terrace. A hammock hangs between two coconut palms and there is an outside shower to rinse off the sea water before entering the house. We had a wonderful time snorkeling and viewing the local fauna, including the small crabs and lizards that appeared on the terrace. We visited several nearby restaurants for dinner and enjoyed good meals at each one. I will look forward to returning to Grand Cayman and Cool Change again someday. Traveling group: Other Would I recommend this vacation rental to my best friend? Yes.

My husband and I stayed at Cool Change from 8/10/16 to 8/20/16. We live at the beach and usually travel to see snow and mountains when we vacation. We have seen many beautiful places, but this one stole my heart! The private beach and landscaping are amazing! We loved the comfy house, outdoor shower, patio and amazing views! I can't say enough about Cool Change! We will absolutely return and bring the rest of our family to share this piece of heaven with! Loved the Rum Point location...so quiet and laid back. There's a great new water taxi (Cayman Ferries: 345-325-7777) that will take you back and forth from Kaibo to Camana Bay for $25 US round trip. Nice boat ride to all the activities and Seven Mile Beach. Stingray City is a must...we swam with Sally the dolphin at Dolphin Cove, snorkeled, went to the botanical gardens...so many firsts! We absolutely can not wait to return!

Cool Change - Amazing!

Love "Cool Change" - very private and cozy!! It's the perfect beach house!!!! Small and unpretentious. It has its own beach (walk right out) and the views from the house are magnificent!!! Also, it is not far to Rum point and other great spots to hang out and dine. Love it!! I will be back!!!

Getting Around

A rental car is highly recommended. Taxi cabs are unreliable and expensive outside of town and Seven Mile Beach. Plus, there is no Uber or Lyft on the island

For rental cars, we recommend Budget CaymanAvis, or Marshalls.
